Mickey Fernandez

Mickey Fernandez is native of the country of Peru in South America. Soccer has always been part of Mickey's life as the sport is very popular in South America. Unfortunately, in her early school years, sports were segregated in South America and only boys were allowed to play soccer at school and in general, therefore, she just grew up watching and cheering friends and family that practice the sport, and of course her native national team. After she migrated to the US, she couldn't really practice the sport as school and work did not allow for much time off. It wasn't until 2008 that she moved to Panama City after having lived in TX while on military orders, that she was able to join a recreational league and finally got to be a part of our soccer culture. While in our community she has served as soccer liaison for Panama City Adult Soccer and then President of the adult league for a couple of years. After her service, she managed her own adult soccer leagues creating the first women's league in Panama City, which at the time was only on a 3v3 format. She managed 3 soccer leagues per week that met at Fusion Fitness Center and 1 outdoor league that played at Harders Park. As part of her community service and dedication to the sport, she has filled positions as volunteer coach for U-6, U-8, U-12 children as well as assistant coach for boys and girls at Merritt Brown Middle School for several years. After hurricane Michael, Mickey teamed up with Bay United SC to bring adult soccer as part of the programs offered at the club. Since its inception, the adult league has grown from being offered just to women, then men at a competitive level, coed and most recently our over 35 league. She is very passionate about the sport and the inclusion of every culture, language, level and style of play and gender that soccer allows us to enjoy. Under her guidance our most active season was the Spring of 2022, which consisted of a total of 28 teams.
